Also, what was the most recent war between them and when was it? Was it before or after the Scottish/English wars?

There is just one rugby team for the whole of ireland (republic and northern together)

The partition between northern ireland and the republic of ireland was during the irish civil war from june 1922, and may 1923.
l think that was the most recent. :)

No they don't, it is a combined Republic Northern Ireland. That is why when they would normally play the National Anthem, they play ''Ireland. Ireland''.

l think hedgepig covered the historical side for you. The only other comment l could have would be regarding the ''Troubles'' but that is not for the rugby site.

Nothern Ireland have their own team, Ulster, in the Celtic league but as the other posters have said, the Irish national team is a combined Republic and Northern Ireland team.

Nope just one team called 'Ireland.' Not the Republic, not Northern, just Ireland.
