My 12 year old has started doing rugby (including rugby matches) he needs some rugby boots but l dont know which make are best to get l dont wanna spend a fortune but also dont wanna get him something his mates will laugh at. Where best to get them from? Thanks

Why not see what others on his team are wearing and get something similar?

If he is still young, soccer cleats are fine.

l am sure his friends wo not laugh or anything; you barely notice what someone is wearing on their feet when it comes to rugby ;)

im not sure if ur british or american, but if ur british try prodirectrugby.com thats were l have been getting my last few pairs from. as an 18yr old l think l can be helpful, l didnt start spending £100 a pair till l was 14, but most depends on position. front row & second row l would sujest a pair of kooga is or Canterbury's. look for boots with 8, large rugby studs in, giving a good secure grip. all other positions generaly get lighter boots, my faverates at the moment r the Adidas'. they provide greate comfort, r light ish. & have great studs. l would recoment getting some of last season is Predators. they were my last pair of boots, & were my best ever. should be able to get some for £40 - £50

sorry if u live in the US, l dont have a clue were to look, but as long as there not some horrid colour, or do anything crazy ur lad will be fine.

you wana get some shoes that will match his uniform like black or navy blue those usally range between nike or addiass but those are a bit exspensive but make sure cuz hes 12 hes joining juniours so your best off getting him some plastic studds if he has screw on is or blades he will get sent off

Depends on the position he plays. That said, I've played all over the park, from prop to full back & l always used Adidas Flankers. good all round boot. Some people have said use football boots. Don't. There r strict rules on stud size, length & position on the boot. Any reputable sports shop will help u sort out the right boots for ur son.

Do not go spending a fortune either. He is going to grow out of them in a year & they only last two or three seasons anyway. Do not make the mistake of buying a pair which r a little on the large size in the expectation he will grow into them. Buy him a pair which fit him now.

Two of my boys play rugger & football & need to keep with the peer pressure!
Rule 1, the expensive ones will not be recognisable after week 2/3 of playing!
Therefore, the guys will be more impressed with his playing-taking into account he is a fairly good player-than his boots!

Rule 2, His position!
Forwards have longer & more studs for scrummaging & covers the ankle.
Backs tend to wear a more shoe style boot with longer & less stud!

When buying boots for my son is when they started playing rugby, the advice given was:
Forwards wear a more ''Boot'' style with extra studs, whereas the backs wear a more ''shoe'' style with less studs!

So, if he is a back, he can wear a football boot, which is cheaper!

l went for adidas most of the time, but check online for cheaper boots before hitting the high street!

you can wear football boots but if you want some nice Canterbury boots there not that expensive heres a website for you

rugby players nowadays tend to wear football boots so any 1 will do really l played league too and used any l could beg or borrow
