why was rugby first played

Rugby was first played because of a naughty Little boy called William Webb Ellis who broke the rules of Football (soccer) and picked up the ball and ran With it during a game at the Rugby school in the town of Rugby in England in 1823 thus creating the game of Rugby Football

On a crisp fall day in 1823, William Webb Ellis picked up a football in his hands & ran with it. To this day, BACKS throughout the world hail this moment as the birth of RUGBY.
