I am on a couple of teams right now, living in Canada, and one of the coaches l have is just a bloody moron. The thing is he thinks he is the biggest thing rugby is ever seen, and he makes the most ridiculous mistakes you've ever seen, and when l point it out to him, or give a team mate advice, he jumps in just to call me wrong. Until now, I've played my rugby in NZ, Ireland, England and the Arabian Gulf. I've had guest coaches in to teach us stuff, like Troy Flavell, Al Baxter, Danny Cipriani, Ronan O'Gara, Matt Rogers and Colin Charvis. My past permenant coaches consist of a fantastic team, members of it played two tests for the Barbarians, one of them against Brian Lima and the likes of a very vicious Samoa, and some other almost-internationals who just did not quite make it. And this guy has the audacity to tell me that everything that I've been taught is wrong, because he is the greatest authority on rugby ever, apparently. The way he told our scrum to bind was outrageous, and (ill add
he frequently gets the most basic of things wrong. for half of practise he was getting our halfbacks to put the ball in from the wrong side of the scrum, and l let him do it just to see if he'd ever realise, and since no one else on this team is ever really played that much rugby, no one realised until my brother could not take it any longer and told him.
so what do l do? am l being a pric.k? because i'm genuinely scared that my rugby is going to get worse because of this guy. and ive got a feeling that one day im just going to tell him that ive played with an under 16 team more competitive rugby that he is ever played in his life. he actually dislikes me and my brother so much now that he made this kid captain who calls tries touchdowns and has no clue what offside is. do l have a right to be a little steamed?

im not going to side with ur coach, but ill say this.

perhaps what he is saying is germaine to the level of rugby that he is coaching.

im in a scenario where l just started coaching a new girls rugby team, & concepts & tactics that l consider quite simple r beyond thier understanding. but l have over 20 years of rugby playing experience where some of them hadnt seen the sport till 2 months ago.

lets put it this way. im having to teach them how to hold the ball. something that seems intuitive & natural to me. & also, when teaching the pass, l have to emphasise the mechanics of the pass, not just that the ball should get to where u want it to go. but that the body should turn sightly & follow the path of the ball.

so, yes, u might be right. but do consider the level at which u r playing. advanced principles & tactics might not be appropriate.

mind you, l have no idea what level rugby u r playing. & im not disputing anything u r saying.

Obviously the skill level of coaching where u r must be very low grade.
Babarians is not much to go on,basically a team put together for a few games. l played all my rugby in Auckland NZ,thats where the worlds best coaches are,i know ''The Chiropractor'Brian Lima well.Myself being of Samoan decent & playing rugby here,mate why dnt u put in for coach u sound as if know rugby but me coming from NZ ,Ogara,Rogers,Cipriani,Baxter really dnt carry any weight down here.Now Chavis has a respect in Nz for having the grit & determination of an ALLBLACK

Where exactly are you in Canada? I've played all over the eastern part of Canada and know many of the teams. If you say you play for a couple different teams, then just drop this one and play for the other one exclusively. If that is not an option, look outside your immediate vicinity. You might be able to find another team within an hour is drive that would be more fitting. If you are stuck with this guy, try helping him out. Give him a library of books to help.

Ummmmm if u have been palying rugby in the Arabian Gulf, l am not so sure ur rugby could get any worse mate.

He is ur coach, so respectfully tell him to shut the f**k up & learn the game. Maybe tactfully suggest that there is a couple of games of rugby that ur team should sit down & watch & converse over.

But do not whatever u do DO NOT have a go at him in front of the team. Talk to him calmly & intelligently away from everyone else out of ear shot from ur fellow players because otherwise he will just end up with a chip on his shoulder against you.


l like the way u listed all these players u have played with & against but l hope u know just because u have been coached by these players it does not make u any better (or worse) then ur team mates. Rugby is a team game & if u come across as an arrogant cocky little piece of work who thinks he knows it all u r just as bad as ur uneducated coach.

So please choose ur words carefully & deliberately.
