l am a rugby player and my friend is boyfriend claims that rugby is nothing compared to wrestling (l wanna join the wrestling team next year and he says I will have to train like never before), and that wrestling is the hardest sport.What is your opinion though?
l realize that both are challenging in their own way, and that rugby requires more endurance whereas wrestling needs more strength, but l wanna know: which is more challenging, is one slightly harder than the other, do you think they are on the same level, what else?

rugby running plus tackling is rough

Rugby probably. It lasts a lot longer than a wrestling match and it is not just one on one you could find yourself against two or maybe three players.

Having done both l would say it is difficult to say. The things that r comparable r aggressiveness, tactics, overall fitness. The differences r duration of competition, position played (if u r an outside back in rugby u may not have as much contact as a forward), making weight (very challenging in wrestling), aerobic vs anaerobic competition, style (freestyle vs greco-roman), individual vs. team sport.
On a personal basis, l was in the best condition of my life as a wrestler. Rugby was next. In wrestling u r competing at a level of 100% for the match. The other challenge was making weight. It is an advantage to wrestle in the lowest weight class that allows u to keep ur strength. In rugby u vary ur intensity based on field position & action. It is the duration & sprinting that will wear u out. Both require tremendous conditioning. Both r great sports. l wish u the best!

uh l think rugby cause you gotta run from one side of the field to another whereas wrestling arent you in a confined spot. They both have their strengths over one another.

Rugby you gotta have upper/lower body strength, speed, probably agility, endurance, stamina etc. l think wrestlers would need brute strength, agility, stamina, endurance. Not that l am detracting from Wrestling.

l was a state qualifying wrestler & an all state rugby player.
Wrestling is only a six minute match rugby is eighty. You can wrestle several matches in a day & u can only play one full rugby match a day. Wrestling u use fitness, strength & quickness & in rugby u use the same skills.

l personally think wrestling is harder than rugby. In wrestling it is u vs. the other guy no one there to help you. Rugby if u miss a tackle there is a possibility for a team mate to pick him up for you. l wrestled in high school & played rugby in college.

Go out for wrestling because it will be great training for rugby.

Rugby is a lot harder in terms of power and strength. Wrestling is just two people rolling around with each other. Rugby you need to be on your feet and use your muscles. it is a lot more challenging and as it is a code of football is a lot better in so many ways. Wrestling is not even in that category
