l came from the northern territory where AFL was a bit bigger and moved to queensland where they only like rugby so ive played that for years and still.. the main skill you need is to sidestep and you can not really practice that so the only way people are good at rugby is if they grew up with it but like tennis and soccer you can train for sduifsdiufsuifsduf
i mean really the skills are just dummying and sidestepping caz anyone can learn to pass and yea forwards dont do that but u know what l mean aya ayayayaa

If you have to practice solo then you can do kicking, picking a up a loose ball (kick it, follow it and catch it before it stops) and sidestep/swerving by putting out a line of cones or milk bottles and doing a slalom around them with the ball. Dummying is done to an ''invisible'' player so not difficult.

l am from the US & grew up playing american football, whose rules make u develope instincts that r in direct opposition to what the proper plays in rugby might be on several occasions, such as when u r in possession of the ball & being tackled, & l must disagree with ur assessment. l started playing at 16 & now at the age of 23 l can say that after playing for the last 8 years it does get much easier; it just takes extensive practice. l also had the benefit of being coached by coaches who were former players from new zeland & england who grew up playing the sport, so that certainly did not hurt in picking up a few pointers. My advice would be to join a local club & practice with players who have grown up playing the sport as much as possible if u truely wish to become better. The sport takes far more skills than learning to sidestep tacklers to become a quality rugger. When l first got into the sport l too figured that being good at american football & being able to sidestep & cutback while running would directly translate into being a quality rugger but it just does not work that way.

We practise side-steps for an entirely different sport (or rather reacting to movement using sidesteps). If you can convince a friend to stand in front of you, run at them and then get them to stick an arm out to one side. You have to side step to run past them on the other side. It is about the only way l can think of anyway.
