Im in grade 9 in highschool, l wiegh 137 pounds, and im not crazy strength, on a vertical bench press l could do 80 about 10 times. but my leg strength is better. l play soccer alot, and im going to ply hockey, training has already started which im doing, and we dont play much this year, its just building up to get stronger for the next years. we play with g12,g11,g10 and g9. thanks

Give it a go. Rugby is not all hitting and scrums. They also need players who are quick on their feet and can run the ball. Go out, learn some new skills and have fun!

my roommate was smaller than that and now starts for a university starter. he still does not weigh 170 pounds so definitely go for it. size is not everything in rugby and you have what it takes!

Rugby is a great sport. it is fast paced and has great continuity. If you did enjoy soccer and you do like contact and competitive sports, rugby is great. If you are scared about getting hit with no pads, it is not much to worry about. Rugby tackling is a whole different style than football tackling. in football, players are trying to go for the big hit. While in rugby you are just trying to get the guy down. Everyone gets the ball and all have an equal chance to score.

rugby is a great sport. it is all about respect. not big hits. when you learn how to tackle properly, you do not get hurt. so do not be worrying about that. every rugby team needs fast strong players and your well suited for it. give it a try, and if you do not like it? you will still come out the other side with a few new skillz!

because of ur weight u could probably play forward. Alot of things r determined on ur height as well. If you're short you'd play hook, tall with good leg strength, fly half or centre. Your coaches in highschool will have a good idea of where u should be playing, they base ur position on ur potential, not necessarily ur physical attributes. Rugby is a great sport, & l can honestly say you'd be missing out if u didnt play. id give it a shot, u have nothing to lose

Please ignore the above answer. Rugby is a great sport and should be enjoyed by every country! You'd probably be best suited in the backs, but give a few positions a try and see what suits you best. Do not worry about your strength at this stage, this will come as you get older and bulk out a bit. Have fun!

at your age you need to have very good handling and very long passes and unless you've been working on them both for years, l dont think you will be a high enough standard

l think u should definitely give rugby a go. I've played rugby for almost 20 years & l am not what u call line backer material. Unlike American football, rugby is a lot like soccer in terms of its continuity, alot of the game is all about getting the ball into the oppositions open spaces.

And an intelligent player is worth more to a team than just size. You take Luke McAlister & Johnny Wilkinson for instance although not exactly shrinking violents they r a bit on the light side as far as size goes for top flight rugby.

What l like about rugby is that its mostly an amateaur game, played by poeple like u & me. Mostly its just a healthy way to get rid of ones frustrations built up over the week.

My advice to u is give it a go, do not worry about size take what u learnt in soccer like pace, fitness, ball skills & apply it to rugby. Like most sports its all about techiqnue & know how. Being the fittess person on the field also helps & do not be afraid to get stuck in

Ofcourse give rugby a go, the most important thing is you have a good coach who can advise you properly and teach you about techniques to use on the field, eg tackling, running lines, cover defending, positional play and who will look after you sensibly as a player.
